Dr. Nelson was born in Kankakee IL and graduated from The University of Illinois in Urbana IL. He attended Rush Medical College in Chicago and completed his residency and cardiology fellowship at Rush-Presbyterian St. Luke's Medical Center in Chicago.

Dr. Nelson is board certified in internal medicine, cardiology, and interventional cardiology.   He is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology  and Society of Cardiac Angiography and Intervention.  He is member of the Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography.
